Why Dahlia?

Naming this site was a journey of introspection (and laughter) with my daughter, trying to encapsulate the core of what's important to me, and translate it into a name that echoes my message. We had a good time as she relayed, of course, my “best” qualities but alas, as I looked around my home and thought of things that were meaningful to me and the message I wanted to relay, I came to Dahlia, which is more than a name. It's an ethos.

A Dahlia from a spiritual perspective symbolizes inner strength, creativity, fresh starts, a commitment to what is positive and one of my favorites, grace even in challenging times (among many other things). To top it off, it's my favorite flower. I loved it so much, it adorned all the tables at my wedding. Even as I sit here, writing this, the sight of vivid orange dahlias in a vase is nearby. Amazingly, until I did a deep dive, I didn’t know all it represented and how apropos it was and is in how I try to lead my life.

The belief in these qualities, that every day brings a chance to create, feel, and relish the way you experience the world I know sounds a bit bohemian. Believe me, I have an alarm that goes off when something is too Pollyanna, but in this, I genuinely think it can flip your perspective on life. And here at Dahlia, we are all about new beginnings and taking space for oneself that feels good. Good by what you wear, what you cook, and how you navigate this world which isn’t always easy. I also would add you need a sense of humor because I don’t think you can get through life without one. And if you have happily, kudos to you.

As a TV producer with a passion for storytelling, style, food, and visuals, I thrive on inspiring others and making them smile…or cry sometimes in the same minute. And I know I'm constantly fueled by the diverse sights, sounds and conversations around me. So, in creating this blog, I hope it stirs up a similar sensation in you. Maybe it will prompt a thought, evoke a feeling, or inspire you to try something new. If it does, then it's fulfilled its purpose and that’s all I could ask for.

Thanks for being here and for letting me share a slice of my world with you.

With love, Stephanie.
